A Doctor’s Confession to the City of Tyler…
Dear friend,
Confessions are tough. Real tough. But, sometimes a confession can set the record straight, and I want to give credit where credit is due. Before I talk about my confession, though, let me say a few other things first.
Let me start by explaining the photo in this letter. You know, when I meet people in town they usually say, “Oh yeah, I know you, you’re Dr. Parker. I’ve seen the ad with the picture of you and your children.” I’m the guy in the middle.
Years ago something happened to me that changed my life forever. Let me tell you my story.
Back in my prime, I was a hurler, a pitcher, a 6’1” southpaw with a 90 mph fastball, and a curveball that just seemed to disappear right before the batter’s eyes. With stats to die for and a College National Championship under my belt, it is easy to see that I am having the time of my life. And then it happened… my train derailed. I suddenly can’t throw hard and my elbow aches all day. A well-known orthopedist takes x-rays and orders an MRI then tells me that he can’t find anything wrong. Now he is telling me that my only other option is surgery. I am in pain and afraid. I am going in for cortisone injections and pain killers to sleep. I go from having a shot at pitching in the pros to having trouble getting dressed or driving with my left arm. But, finally a breakthrough…
I was given a class assignment to shadow a professional and give a class presentation on the experience. I wanted to be a doctor, so I thought I would pick a doctor for my project. I had the opportunity to visit many different doctors of various disciplines during my life (I was a daredevil as a child). I remember some of my most pleasant experiences as a patient, so I choose this kind of doctor to follow. I am very pleased with my selection. All the patients come in with a smile, even the ones in lots of pain! They walk in, limp in and some are even wheeled in to see this doctor. They are happy to be there. I feel relaxed and you can tell that the patients feel at ease too. He would examine them and take x-rays then helped them with their ailments. Of course you know that I tell him about my elbow. He examines me and tells me that my problem wasn’t my elbow at all.
Oh, did I mention that this doctor is a chiropractor? He adjusts my neck and shoulder and NO MORE PAIN! It works so well for me that I decide to go to chiropractic school instead of signing a baseball deal. I never looked back. It was the best decision I ever made.
Now the children in the picture are my daughters, Allie and Elizabeth, and my son, Luke. All have been chiropractic patients from birth and have remained healthy in spite of the many illnesses known to plague children. They have the occasional runny nose or mild ear infection, both which respond well to conservative care without the constant use of drugs. Chiropractic has done wonders for my children’s immune system. In fact, they are no longer susceptible to the same food allergies as many children their age. They eat all the same foods that I do and have had NO ALLERGIES to any of them!
It’s strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their elbow/arm pain. Also they come to me with their headaches, migraines, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, pregnancy, various addictions, arthritis, scoliosis, ADD/ADHD, Fibromyalgia, just to name a few.
Many patients thank me for helping them with their health problems, but I can’t really take the credit. You’ve waited patiently for the confession, so here it is. My confession is that I’ve never healed anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific spinal adjustments and treat specific acupuncture points (without needles) to remove nerve pressure and restore energy flow, and the body responds by healing itself. We get tremendous results. It’s as simple as that!
Being a chiropractor can be tough, because there’s a host of so-called experts out there. They tell people a lot of things that are just plain ridiculous about my profession. But the studies speak for themselves, like the Virginia study that showed that over 90% of patients who saw a chiropractor were satisfied with their results. That’s absolutely incredible!
The World Health Organization recently completed a study that ranked the U.S. only 47th in health (down from 29th only a few years ago). That’s startling considering our modern technology and fine doctors. And this ranking is only considering those industrialized countries! Ask yourself… Are drugs really the answer? Did you know that medication errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the Journal of American Medical Association? Did you know that regular chiropractic care can help boost your immune system? Why not consider a safe and effective alternative like chiropractic?
Millions of Americans have found that the Affordable Care Act is NOT AFFORDABLE, causing high deductibles and reduced benefits. Many have opted to pay the penalty for no coverage. That’s where Chiropractic comes in.
